Schmincke Horadam Aquarell is one of the world's most highly regarded ranges of professional watercolour paint. The standard range comprises 139 colours in half and full pans, as well as 5 ml and 15 ml tubes. 92 of the colours are single-pigment colours, providing precise mixing results, and 22 colours are granulating and marked with a G on the colour chart. The range includes both classic colours and newer pigments such as perylenes, quinacridones and transparent iron oxide.

The Supergranulating range consists of 50 colours in half pans, as well as 5 ml and 15 ml tubes. Each colour combines at least two granulating Horadam pigments from different colour families, enhancing the textural effect and creating colour shifts within the brushstroke. The effect depends on the paper and the amount of water – the rougher the paper, the stronger the granulation. The 50 colours are divided into 10 thematic series of 5 colours each: Deep Sea, Glacier, Galaxy, Forest, Tundra, Volcano, Shire, Desert, Haze and Urban.

About Schmincke

Schmincke was founded in Germany in 1881 by colour chemists Josef Horadam and Hermann Schmincke. The company’s first product was the "Mussini" oil colour, developed from traditional resin-oil paint recipes used by the Italian artist Cesare Mussini. In 1892, Josef Horadam developed a new type of poured watercolour paint, which he named after himself – the foundation of what is now the Horadam Aquarell range. More than 140 years later, Schmincke is still guided by the company motto "Meliora cogito" (I strive for the best), and Horadam Aquarell remains one of the most highly regarded watercolour ranges among professional artists worldwide.
